Sourdough Stuffing

Homemade stuffing that blows away anything you can buy in a box. The secret is in the type of bread, a savory sourdough and mixing your own herb seasoning. So flavorful you might skip the gravy, but I'm not stopping you!

Ingredients:

1 loaf Sourdough bread
1 cup diced onion

1 tsp salt
1 tsp seasoned salt
1 tsp pepper
1 tsp Turkey Herb Blend seasoning
1 stick butter
1 cup turkey stock
1 egg

Supplies:

Measuring spoons
Serrated bread knife
Chef's knife
Cutting board
Baking sheet

Directions:

Cut the bread into cubes. 4x4 pieces per slice. Save the heels and any crumbs, these will be your bread crumbs for your green bean casserole. You'll need 1/2 cup. Spread the bread cubes and crumbs over a flat baking sheet and place in your oven 4 days before Thanksgiving. Stir the bread every day so that all the edges get a chance to dry and get a little crisp. Sift out the crumbs and heels and save. In a large bowl, add melted butter, egg turkey stock and all seasonings. Add cubed bread and onions and stir well to coat. Pour into a 9x13" baking dish and bake 350 degrees 30-35 minutes.

Tips:
I like to get my loaf from Cracker Barrel. They have the best sourdough bread that is made exclusively for them. To make ahead: everything can be prepared ahead of time the day before if you mix the turkey stock, melted butter and egg together day of and then add the seasoned cubes to the wet mix.
